How to Use the Upper Body Return to Sport Checklist

I want to tell you about using the upper body return to sport checklist.  This is a little bit different. We don't typically see or use return to sport tests as frequently as the lower body.  The lower body is a lot more common, but the upper body is just as important.  The problem is we don't have a ton of research on it compared to the lower body because only 10% of injuries are to the upper body in most sports.  But it's essential that we have a standard operating procedure for knowing when that person has returned to normal. And that's what the upper body tests will do.  And we do this in a very strategic, stepwise fashion, starting with range of motion and strength, and then going into some motor control, some agility, some power.  So that we go through the entire process to be sure that person is fully ready to go, that you know they are ready to return to sport, return to their activity or be discharged.  This is a key thing in your practice. It helps you ensure that you're getting the optimal outcomes for your patients, and you can know that they're ready with confidence.
