Phil's Essential Products

These are the equipment and products that I use on a regular basis.

EQUIPMENT

Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Test Kit

I still prefer the PVC version, but call me old fashioned.

Y-Balance Test Kit

Be sure to get the PVC one NOT the Professional Wood one. It is one of the few times where cheaper is better. The wood ones break easier and slide boxes don’t always slide as well.

Indian Clubs - 1 lb. (Pair)

These are a great tool for an effective warm up, as well as to increase power and energy storing. Remember, keep them light -- 1# is sufficient. In our culture we always want to get the heavier ones – no need for that here.

Kettlebells

These kettlebells are a dollar a pound  (great price) and FREE shipping (unheard of). Sometimes they will randomly go on sale for 50 cents a pound!

Weider, 50lb Cast Iron Hammertone Finish Kettlebell, Single

Jump Rope

Jump rope is one of the most effective ways to prime the body for competition and exercise. It has such a great effect on posture, timing, coordination and most importantly reactive jumping ability. This is one of the biggest bang for the buck pieces of equipment you can purchase

1# Jump Rope

Battle Ropes

Nothing improves broad and vertical jump better that using a rope with a pattern – not in the cardio way, but generating and receiving a high quality “wave”.

First Place Training Rope: 50' x 1 1/2 in. (Black)

Plyo Box

I love this plyo box as a starter box for both your gym but also your athletes. No torn up shins with this box. The downside is that the box can flip if you land on the edge (which does help encourage proper form). Putting it up against the wall can really help with that.

APPS

Freedom.to

This is a recent addition to my productivity system. I can get lost on mindlessly scrolling social media. With this app, I schedule periods of the day that I can access social media. For me I have 12-1 and 330-530. It has made me so much more productive and fulfilled, I can hardly describe it!

Clinometer

For measuring closed chain dorsiflexion and hip rotation this app is essential (Android or iPhone).

Kajabi Communities

This is how to keep up in the Coaches Club. This relates to staying off social media, with this app (iPhone or Android) I get notified about meaningful conversation that makes me a better clinician in the Coaches Club. Make sure to turn on announcements in your user account so you don't miss anything.

PRODUCTIVITY & DEVELOPMENT

Passion Planner

On Sunday night I compile a to-do list and then schedule those items throughout the week. It is a game changer for productivity as well as decreasing overwhelm.

Growth Day App

This  is an incredible personal development app that has a daily personal development talk (10-20 minutes). Plus it has daily prompts for journaling and gratitude. Additionally, it has the ability to score you in multiple life domains weekly and monthly with recommended free courses to address areas you score lower. If you use the link here you get a free 14-day trial and free $300 habit course.

Through The Word App

I do my devotion in the car on the way into work.  What I love is that there is a high quality 10-minute Bible teach and then audio (or written) chapter of the Bible. You can list to the Bible first or the teaching first. I listen to the teaching first because then I get so much more out of the chapter.

MedBridge

While I normally don’t have to do a lot of continuing education because of my research publications and presentations, when I do I use MedBridge. Additionally, my wife who is a PT and ATC uses MedBridge exclusively for her CEUs. I like it because you can find some really high quality researched based instructors. Here is a list of courses I recommend: https://www.philplisky.com/blog/recommended-medbridge-courses-for-athletic-trainers-and-sports-physical-therapists
